Florence’s Biggest Loser contestants took a break from their workouts to get energized before embarking upon the last five weeks of the competition.

The Carolinian hosted the contestants and provided them with a nutritious meal before they indulged in an evening of games and motivation by life coach Robin Lewis.

Contestants were split into groups, and each group met with Lewis separately to discuss challenges they’re experiencing at this point in the competition.

Lewis told contestants that the personal changes they are making in their lives are theirs to own.

“Even while you have this team assembled to help you and to walk with you across this place from point A to point B, it’s still yours to own,” Lewis said.

She encouraged contestants to ponder on their thoughts and try to think more positively about whatever they may be faced with.

“Our beliefs flow into our thoughts, Lewis said. “Our thoughts determine our actions and behaviors, and then those determine the results we have in our life.”

As the “newness” of the competition has worn off, contestants say, it has gotten harder. A few contestants have even left the competition.

To encourage the contestants who may be experiencing a lack of motivation at this point, Lewis reminded them that they’re in control of their brains and how they respond to challenge.

“Even when you feel stuck in the moment, and you feel bogged down in it and you feel like a four or a one, every time that you choose something positive and you grab a hold of it, you’re training your brain how to respond to challenge, and it will help see you through,” Lewis said.

Contestants said Thursday’s event was indeed an energizer.

“I think we all got tired and ready to quit,” Denise Ellis said. “And it was a lot of motivation.”

Ellis said the words of Lewis helped her more than anything because it encouraged contestants that they can accomplish their goal.

“The power is inside each of us to do it,” Ellis said. “Just remember that we can, and we will.”

Contestant Marie Venable said she plans to get back in the gym a little more and concentrate on doing her best as she finishes up the last few weeks of the competition.

“Our best is going to be where we’re supposed to be,” Venable said. “Just don’t get nervous or upset if we don’t feel like we did too well. If we have worked hard enough, it’ll be our best.”
