Meet BIGGEST LOSER contestant John McElwee!

The other Sunday, I took my kids to Burger King. So to prove to you my dedication, I stuffed a turkey with mustard sandwich in my pocket for my lunch. I bought the kids their cheeseburger and fries, and we sat outside so they could play.

There were number of fries left over. I just stared at them for two minutes feeling like there was a devil on my left and an angel on my right. I finally wrapped up the fries and tossed them in the trash. The angel won this time.

Temptations abound right now with buying kids ice cream on the weekends and it being Girl Scout cookie time. We have 80 boxes in our dining room to sell (and a couple to keep). Samoas and Tagalongs are my favorite. I guess I could have two cookies for dinner. They don’t expire until September, so after my final weigh in, look out.

Last Thursday was the end of the fourth week. I had a successful week going to the gym five times and not cheating at all. I’m eating three meals a day and snacks in between if necessary. Skipping meals is the worst thing to do. My favorite breakfast is egg white, sautéed spinach, mushrooms and small shrimp wrapped up in a wheat burrito top with hot sauce. Another is toasted multi-grain English muffin topped with peanut butter, banana slices and sprinkled with cinnamon. I managed to lose 6.6 pounds this week and stayed in the Top 10. Still within reach of winning this competition, but the competition is stiff. I would imagine it will intensify in the final few weeks.

Last Wednesday evening, trainer Tulsi Patel led our group of five through an hour of exercise. We did a five station circuit-like training session. One station was to balance ourselves on a platform that has a half ball underneath, squat and lift weights over your head. Having no balance, I bailed out.

Try being overweight and out of shape and doing 15 “burpees.” (Google it.) Where do they get the names? All of us thought this was the hardest exercise in the circuit. Congratulations to Jack Greegan, who won a Power Bar for pushing through all the circuits.

Do you have a favorite contestant? Or want to “practice random acts of kindness to a stranger?” If so, please support them by leaving words of encouragement and better yet — buy them some brownie points!
